Situ Jun, an overseas Chinese, receives a letter which asks him to
come back to his native town, Leshan, to discuss some important buiness.
The letter is signed by a Mr. Ankang, who makes an appointment to
meet him at Linyun Monastery. Situ, moreover, senses that someone
is following him and there is even an attempt on his life, but at
the same time it also seems as if someone is protecting him. To add
to his unease, several mysterious deaths have recently occurred near
the giant Leshan Buddha. It seems that the victims had been looking
for a treasure.
Situ finally learns that his late father had collected a large sum
of money for the repair of the Leshan Buddha. But because of the greed
and designs of the local tyrants he was never able to achieve his
goal. As a last resort he hid the money inside the huge Buddha. Soon
afterwards he and a mason who helped him hide the money were murdered.
Ever since then the local monsters and officials have been looking
for the money. Now that Situ has appeared on the scene he naturally
becomes the center of attraction. After many twists and turns, Situ
finally locates Ankang, who turns out to be his uncle. Questions are
answered but others remain. Who is the beautiful girl that keeps following
him? Whose side is she on? What about the sinister-looking Mr. Sha?
Where exactly is the moner hidden?
